The Crichton Family Band is a surprise to audiences as well as to their parents. Not only do they manage to get along most of the time and play together as siblings, but their parents do not play instruments nor know much about music. However, they had a strong desire to give their children the gift of music despite their deficit. Little did they think their home school requirement to learn an instrument would blossom over the years to playing together for music festivals, fund raisers, Fiddle Fest, and more. The children each play multiple instruments now, but excel in fiddle primarily. Old Time Fiddle music is a favorite and strong influence on their repertoire as well as encourages them to learn by ear. Along with fiddle music, the Crichton Family Band plays hymns and other classic songs like Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Instrumental performances are their mainstay, but in recent years they have broadened their repertoire to include some vocals. They incorporate a variety of instruments like the acoustic guitar, ukulele, bass guitar, the piano, and even the cello in many of their songs. At 22, 19, 18, and 16 years of age, these siblings hope to bless others with their toe-tapping tunes.
A little about US
Sydney is 22, and is a competent, goal-oriented, and organized young woman, and everything she does is thorough and precise. She loves to garden and bargain shop, but she also savors a quiet and relaxed afternoon at home. Sydney has finally completed her Bachelor’s degree in Accounting! She currently works at Simpson Door Company as a staff accountant. Having finished school and being blessed with the flexibility of her job, she is enjoying quite a bit of free time.
Hunter is 20 and has graduated from high school, is currently working at Starbucks, and is going to ASU online. He is a hard worker, dependable, and trustworthy. He likes to do outdoor activities like ride dirt bikes and sports. He not only plays the fiddle, but also plays the guitar, bass and even doodles on the piano! Hunter also has a logical opinion about most everything! His siblings say that his logical brain drives them crazy sometimes, but he keeps us all on our toes. His logical mindset will do him well, as he is pursuing a degree in electrical engineering. We love Hunter, and his amazing musicianship is a tremendous asset to the band.
Bryson, or Bub as he is mostly called, is almost always outside or eating. Bub likes everything “boy”: food, dirt, machines, sports, speed, and action! He loves to be active and work around the yard. At 18, he is hard-working and will do most any job--even weeding, which he dislikes. One of his hobbies is taking things apart and putting them back together again. Bub is very laid back, like water on a calm day. He is good at most any sport but is the best at football! He plays the fiddle, guitar, bass and is the main singer. His willingness to fill the need is seen in his work ethic and daily in the band! We are thankful for Bryson's hard work and talent mixed into one making our music excel.
Riley is 16, and was voted “Most Talkative” by the band. He is known for talking way too much, but he thinks it is a good thing because he dreams of becoming a football announcer for the Seattle Seahawks! In the meantime, Riley is good at helping with little kids. He also enjoys spending time with family and friends. He likes getting wet and dirty, usually ending up soaked. He LOVES football and does a good job of keeping us up to date on all the latest football (NFL) news. Riley radiates smiles and a zap of drama, lifting spirits wherever he goes. We are thankful for his role in the band as not just a ukulele, drummer, bass, and fiddle player, but also a spunky entertainer!
